Thanks you very munch for you answer. I will watch the video whose you speack tomorrow...
I found this 'video' about the Purchase of Louisiana, which I think is quite short and clear : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy2qkTTt4RE
I didin't know anything about this sale, and especially had no idea the territory was much bigger than the current state of Louisiana.
You also talk about reading about slavery : I read the book 12 Years a Slave recently, that was a tough book to read (because of the gruesome story, but also because of the language used). I would like to watch the movie now. Has anyone seen it ?
I'm glad that the article had an impact on some of you, and encouraged you to listen more carefully to music, that's great !
Thank you Odhran for your correction.
And Thank you Laurence for this suggestion.
Last year in May, friends of mine offered to us a gift card! First, my husband and I went to the theater, and last tuesday, I remember that there was money left on the card and I had to use it before May 10. So I decided to by two CDs on the Internet.
Yesterday, only two days after ordering them, I received a double CD by Christophe, in which he sings in duet with other artists and a bestof by Maurane.
Yesterday afternoon, I took time to listen to those singers, without doing anything else!
It was a pleasure; I liked the new musical arrangements that Christophe has made with his old songs!
Maurane was an artist very sincere, her voice is warm and she sings with emotion, so I was touched too!
I appreciated having taken this time!
I will try to repeat this experience.
Yours.
Thérèse
Thanks Laurence for the suggestion. Here is the link for everyone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdsWYOZ8iqM
Laurence, could you explain what it is about and why you liked it ?
It's Laurence again !
Few weeks ago, I watched a video « the lost neighborhood under New York’s Central Park » that I have found very interesting. I advise it to you…
Have a nice day !
Hello,
Thank you Odhran for this text, the first part was very interesting. It makes me thinking about my experience of listening to music.
I doesn't often listen to music, because when I'm working on my computer, I can't do two things who need concentration at the same time.
Sometimes, I put classical CD when I clean my home or when I cook, but it isn't a deeply and attentively listening.
However, sometimes, when I receive a new CD, I can sit down and listening to it without making anything else. For example, with the last CD of Véronique Sanson, which was a present, I sat in my living-room and listened to it, in the order, while reading the text, and then a second time because i liked it: lyrics, piano, ant the artist's voice.
I used to listening music more when I was younger, when I was a teen-ager, my preference were Maxime Le Forestier, Georges Moustaki, and Jacques Brel! Today, I appreciate classical music, I often go to concert, and I like watching concert on TV too.
I will try deeply listening to music more often.
Bye
Thérèse
hello ! It'sLaurence !
As for me, during my moves, I unfortunately got rid of the vinils that I had offered myself with my pocket money and my first wages ... My first memories of my musical emancipation are probably with The Rubettes on which I led my mother in a choreography approximate (I was about 12 years old). Followed Michael Jackson for his terribly effective clips, then Supertramps, Queen and also Madonna ...
With CD albums, it is true that I have never found the same pleasure as with vinyl. Is it because I got old? Now, to enjoy my favorite music, I need to feel "isolated" in my car for example or with headphones on my ears. The only time when I can find today this intense emotion or excitement that I felt in my teenager or my very young adult life, it is in front of a stage during a concert ... like during the band "UK ON THE ROCKS "concert last September at l'Escall ... but that was in our life back ... before lockdown ...
Hello everyone,..........Listening Music is not a part of my daily life.
I enyoy listening music quietly at home, or in concert, or listening someone playing an instrument or singing.
But, in general, I don't give myself enough time to listen to music.
And yet, music is important to transmit messages, joy, to enlighten every life, to make you want to sing, to be together.
Actually, I can put a background in the house, but I don't really listen.
But, when I like a song, I listen to it, and listen to it again.
It is very rare than I listen to an entire album while respecting as the text says, the artist's work.
In these times of "confinement", I listened with a very attentive ear two songs, that I give you.
Excuse me, it's in French :
- Grand Corps Malade "Effets Secondaires" - (It's like an inventory of the situation, and now, It's up to us to rebuild).
- Zazie : " Speed" - ( we live, Hope, possible rebirth).
I will progress listening in mindfulness.

Yes, goose bumps (= la chaire de poule, littéralement des bosses d'oie...).
I do understand your preference for vinyl records, and they have come back in the last decade. I also prefer vinyl, maybe not for the sound as much as for the fact that you can see the record play : it doesn't come from nowhere, it comes from this stange black thing; I find it quite fascinating.
If I had to recommend a few albums like in the article, I would choose Come On Feel the Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens, Funeral by Arcade Fire, Ys by Joanna Newsom, Flashlight Seasons by Gravenhurst, or Push Barman to Open Old Wounds by Belle & Sebastian. All these records are absolutely brilliant.
Hello Everyone
When I was young, I listened a lot of music. It was the vinyl génération with many mythique music band. I have always liked Pink Floyd, Alan Parson Project, space art, eagles, Kiss, foreigner, Vangelis (chariots of fire, conquest of paradise ....) and music conposer Jean Michel jarre, indeed I was fan of syntetic music.
Unfortunetly, The CD killed the vinyl musical record and his particular sound.
Now, it's the CD who is suffering. The music inline is changing our habits to listen music .
It's true, the music offer in line is huge.
For me, I listen alway to music but it's often broadcast by radio or on my conputer.
I like very much Viva la vida of clooplay, it give me goose bumps (??).
See you soon
Hi Corinne,
Thanks for your reaction !
smoothie doesn't work here, it only references to the beverage. Smoother (more + smooth) would have been bette
I chose this article because I really like music and put music all day long, whether it is when I work on my computer, when I play video games, when I cook, when I shower... When I was younger, I used to put a CD on to fall asleep... But this article really struck me because I definitely listened much more carefully to albums when I was younger and when I bought the albums. I guess, as I invested a little money, I forced myself to do really listen.
Now, I haven't bought a CD in years, probably a decade, and use mostly streaming services. As a result, even though I mainly listen to full albums, the attention I give to an album is not as important as it used to be.
I don't know how artists live from their work with this system...
Reading the article encouraged me to take more time, usually before going to sleep. I recently listened to an old live album by Jeanne Cherhal which I hadn't listened to in many years, and really appreciated it. What I love about albums is how they can bring you back some memories and feelings.
Good evening everybody,
I find this article interesting and I have to admit I never thought about listening music so concentrated as I use to watch a movie. I love music and a large variety of it, but I always listen to it while doing something else. If I'm alone and don't need my brains a lot, I can set the music loud, for example when I'm cleaning my house. In this case, I like music to bring me energy and fun. When I have to work alone on a subject that is not too difficult but expecting minding, I can listen to music more smoothie (?) and lower. Sometimes also, I need to be quiet and relaxed, so I choose a CD of "Zen" music.
I can also say that I am from these generation who buys CD and not from those who are searching only one song on internet (my child laugh about it because they never pay for music). Regarding to the text, naturally, I always listen to the entire album, and I respect the order of the titles registered by the singer and know all the songs.
It's true that young people who only select some titles won't know the entire songs that the artist made in his project.
It can also happens that I listen to the radio, "as it comes". I also choose the CD I put on depending to the atmosphere I'm looking for. It's not the same thing when I'm with friends, when I want to speak and only have a sort of soft ambiance...
During the lockdown, I've not changed my way of listening to music.
What about you all ?
Regards,
Corinne

This is an article about the way we listen to music nowadays, which I find quite interesting. I advise you to read until "washing over your taste buds." The rest is more of a review of three albums, which you might find less interesting.
The article is not particularly easy to read, it has quite a lot of interesting vocabulary, but I think the main idea is quite clear.
Please read it and share your reaction by answering the following questions :
How do you listen to music nowadays ? Haw has it change throughout your life ? Do you think people give as much importance to music as they did before ?
Do you appreciate the experience of listening to music ? What are the best conditions to listen properly to an album ?
Have you taken more time to do that during the lockdown ?
What are your favourite albums ? What feelings do they bring when you listen to them ?
