Réponses ci-dessous...
What are the 4 new countries discovered?
- The West Indies (les Antilles)
- Virginia (in the USA)
- New South Wales (in Australia)
- Greenland (le Groenland)
How does the captain justify the name given to the first three countries?
- He thinks they have reached the west of India
- He names it after the fact that the Queen is a virgin
- It reminds him of the south of Wales
Why does the other man think the name given is absurd?
- If they really reached India, it should actually be the east of the country.
- The name of the Queen is Elizabeth, and it seems absurd to name a country after the fact that she is a virgin.
- It doesn’t look at all like Wales.
- He doesn’t say anything (“Whatever!”), but the name Greenland sounds absurd because everything is actually white, not green.
